We’ve all heard the story entitled “The Little Engine That Could”, haven’t we? Tied up inside of this children’s tale are all kinds of lessons for us as children and adults. Lessons from thinking positive, to never giving up... to sometimes the world and people not treating you the way you’d like to be treated.
Another of the concepts isn’t as clear but it really applies to us today. That concept is visualizing what it would feel like to get your goal. To really dig deep, close your eyes, and imagine, “When I get there, what is it going to feel like, look like, sound like, is there a certain temperature or smell?”
In other words, close your eyes and visualize, with as many senses as possible, what it’s going to be like when you get your goal. Once you’ve got these feelings completely solidified with as many of your senses as possible, the resistance, rejections, difficult hours, and endless hurdles will be easier to face. You’ll be far less likely to give up and get distracted if you know exactly what it’s going to feel like when you get there.
How are you going to get started? Well, start with that goal, consider it accomplished by saying “I thought I could, I thought I could…” then really dig deep to create the experience of accomplishment in your mind. Once completed, building out the steps and taking action and executing the plan will become much more attainable.
Oh, and by the way, go check out the story of “The Little Engine That Could”. There are at least two more valuable lessons that can be learned. If you uncover any of them, send me a quick note. Who could have imagined that so many valuable lessons could be learned by a simple children’s book?
