That 4-letter word is HELP. The Coast Guard uses the acronym H.E.L.P. to spell out a survival technique if you fall into cold water – Heat Escape Lessening Posture. Go check it out, it could save your life.

I found 40+ acronyms to include Higher Education Loan Programme (Australia); Helping Empower Local People; Hope, Encouragement, Love, and Patience, and the list goes on. The first thing that comes to my mind are these lyrics…

,HELP! I need somebody, HELP! Not just anybody,

,HELP! You know I need someone, HELP!

,When I was younger so much younger than today

,I never needed anybody’s help in any way

,But now these days are gone, I’m not so self-assured

,Now I find I’ve changed my mind and opened up the

,Help me if you can, I’m feeling down

,And I do appreciate you being ’round

,Help me get my feet back on the ground

,Won’t you please, please help me?

Now with a little bit of luck, you recognize this Beatles song, and you’ll have the song and lyrics going through your head all day! If that’s not the case, do a quick search and you’ll be able to listen to it. It’s quite a catchy song, but I’m not taking up your time today trying to get you to pull out your old Beatles songs. I want to talk about that 4-letter word, Help.

Like the lyrics suggest, when we’re younger we may not reach out for help from others. We may be too arrogant or cocky to admit that we might need help. In order for us to perform at our peak, we need to open up the doors and seek good counsel. I’ll never forget an opportunity that I had to meet a gentleman who we referred to as the Godfather of a particular position we both held in different markets. His name is Jimmy and it’s really hard to find anyone who has done a more solid job in his position; he’s a true Hall of Famer. He took me out to dier and shared as much as he could during our time together and I remember him saying that one of his keys to success was seeking out good counsel and I remember patting myself on the back and saying, ‘Attaboy, Paul, you’re doing just that as we speak!’

What about you? Do you invest in getting better at your craft? Do you put time and effort into your development? Do you seek good counsel? If you’d like to learn more about what our group or 1:1 coaching can do to help you in your business, let’s jump on a quick call and see if it’s a good fit.
